Question Title Are tuxedo buttons usually satin, wool, or plastic?
Yes, the buttons on most tuxedos are covered in satin.  The satin buttons are a nice accent that accompanies the satin lapels on the tuxedo and the satin besom strip on the pockets of the jacket.

I often wondered about that! Thanks for confirming it. The fact the buttons match the besom stripe as sell as the lapels make a tux seam (sorry) seamless in appearence! Regards William Wright
